Water taking should be at a cost comparable to what residents pay. We should not be subsiding for profit companies by allowing them to take water almost free.
If municipalities have more say, then municipalities can set the rates, and derive the economic benefit.
Ontario government please protect our drinking water and:
1) Phase out within five years all permits to bottle water in Ontario.
2) Adhere to the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), especially regarding consent, in decisions on permits to take water.

I support the proposed strengthening of our water quantity management. I am particularly happy that municipalities will be able to refuse to support a permit over concerns about impacts on aquatic ecosystems, water availability or water quality.

I completely support the four key elements of the proposal, however I think they should be stronger. I wouldn't want an oversight board (such as the Ontario Municipal Board) able to overrule every municipal decision.

That sums up this proposal's intent.
This government, in spite of claims to the contrary, has little or no interest in protecting the environment or Ontario's natural resources.

I am very pleased to see that the government is listening to our concerns with regards to the water taking. It is important that the community that would be effected has some say and to what can happen to their future resources. Please let the community of Centre Wellington have a voice.

I definitely feel water bottling companies must AT LEAST have their host municipalities support before applying for a Permit to Take Water. WE HAVE BEEN ROBBED OF TOO MUCH WATER

I’m very pleased with the stance Ontario has taken in regards to water-taking. The water-bottling industry needs to be reined in. Communities like Centre Wellington which has been mandated to double our growth rate cannot afford to be selling our water off.
I think it should be left up to the individual municipalities to decide whether they should allow massive amounts of water to be taken. Water is a necessity of life and shouldn't be used as a tool of profit by anyone.
As a member of the public, the proposal seems reasonable overall. I am glad to see that environmental sustainability is a #1 priority consideration for water use and that recognition is given to the likelihood of changing water needs and circumstances as a result of climate change.
