This proposed change is incredibly dangerous and unconstitutional. Not only is the government proposing changes that would be unconstitutional, they are also actively infringing on Indigenous rights.

The use of MZO's for land use is a bad idea as they override the Provincial Policy Statement which sets the rules for land use planning.
Clearly, the MZO renders the Provincial Policy Statement irrelevant, thereby greatly reducing the trust of a citizen in a government to respect it's own rules.

The proposed changes here are disturbing to say the least. The proposed ability to simply skip the guidelines set out in the Provincial Policy Statements is shocking and against the treaty rights that have been upheld within the Supreme Court. The duty to consult must be conducted.

Awful proposal to build on protected land and wetlands. Did you ot hear we need to save biodiversity and carbon sinks that means wetlands. Even the Supreme Court hads acknowledged that we are in an environmental crisis. I want my kids to live in a world of nature not a world of lorax.

We should strive to be a society that upholds in the rule of law, democratic institutions and expertise. That an official, elected once every 4 years, should be allowed to disregard laws, institutions and experts for political ends hampers our evolution into a stable, civilised and fair society.

It is unacceptable for the Ontario government to destroy provincially significant natural areas while changing the law so it can’t be held accountable.
WTF is wrong with you all! If your plan is to eradicate the planet of all living things, correction, Canada from all living things then your on the right path. You care more about money then anything else. Save what’s left our natural habitat.
My only comment is this: there is an environmental policy for a reason. Creating loopholes, allowing exemptions for those who would willing damage our natural environment to do so without oversight or consequence is unspeakable, dangerous and very shortsighted. Let's not allow that!

My understanding is that Buried in Bill 257, Supporting Broadband and Infrastructure Expansion Act, 2021, is a proposal to allow Minister's Zoning Orders (MZOs) to override legal and policy protections for farmland and natural heritage features and areas across Ontario.

The fundamental problem with Minister’s zoning orders (MZOs) not having to be consistent with the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS) is that those portions of that document which relate to Indigenous Treaty Rights flow directly from Section 35 of the Constitution Act.
