I am an Ontario outfitter that has been bear hunting commercially for 40 years. I absolutely am in agreement with reducing the distance of baits to the road from the ridiculous distance they have now. Common sense must start to show its head sometime in the political arena. Read more

I oppose this proposal. Stop making things easier for lazy people. Not only does it increase the possibility of vehicle related incidents with bears now wandering closer to the road, the increased risk of a negative bear encounter with people or pets is also raised unnecessarily. Read more

I would hope calmer heads would provial and you would out law bear baiting in its entirety. Having said that, you certainly should not reduce the distance from humans,rather put the bait farther away.

By putting the bait closer to traffic and human trails, you are putting both people and animals at risk. Why would you bother to change the rules? We need to protect people and wildlife and our pets who are walking on trails. What intelligent reason is there to put the bait closer?

I can not believe that you are sacrificing the safety of the public so that it would be easier for hunters to get at the bears. Baiting 30 meters to a road let alone a public trail creates an unsafe situation for humans. Read more

There was never a 500 m distance in place before why now, there are no more bears harvested since bringing back the Spring bear hunt as us residents we re still only allowed 2 bear tags per year and for persons with a bma area they still have the same number of forms for non resident hunters so why Read more

This does not seem the least bit fair to me. I was always under the impression that hunting was a sport and it involved some effort and ability. This is not hunting, its just shooting - so sad!

I object. Any such changes appeal to the hunting community which is with declining members and put the safety of the general public at risk. It is ethically wrong and environmentally disastrous to allow such barbaric practice in place that eliminates an umbrella species. Read more

I object to this proposal. Ontario's wilderness is used by many who prefer not to cause damage. Bears are not dangerous -- hiking and recreating near where bear hunting happens is dangerous. Please, do not allow this change to take place. Thank you for your consideration.
