These are troubling changes to the Planning Act, through the introduction of Bill 197 (COVID-19 Economic Recovery Act). The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing is enabled to direct with impunity how land in Ontario will be developed, as dictated by a Minister’s Zoning Order (MZO). Read more

the Government is abusing the MZO's which should only be used in case of emergency. This is not a dictatorship and the abuse of power that is against the will of the community is leading towards an anger that will be unleashed and create lack of trust of elected representatives. Read more

Thank you for the opportunity to comment. Here are my comments: Ministry Zoning Orders were designed for emergencies. Ontarians are appalled that our current government used MZO 39 times. This cannot continue. Read more

I continue to be more and more disgusted with each new MZO. You have now gathered so much press that I pay attention to planning issues - which is shocking. Planning used to bore me to tears, now its just creates anger. I've started watching, and there is nothing pretty happening. Read more

As a member of a municipal council, I am strongly opposed to the use of Ministerial Zoning Orders. Why should one individual Minister have the power to make planning decisions at the provincial level without requiring public input via the regular zoning process? Read more

The use of MZOs without an openly transparent, public motion by a municipal Council is untenable. Public engagement is the backbone of democracy at the municipal level, and to have this removed to the Provincial level, is beyond reproach. We need to protect our democracy. Read more
