Proposal details

An application has been made by Walker Aggregates Inc. to amend the current site plan to increase the amount of excess soil that can be imported to the Ridgemount Quarry for rehabilitation. The quarry is required to rehabilitate the property to a lake after use. The site plan requires a large portion of the quarry floor to be backfilled in order to raise the elevation of the bottom of the lake and allow for varied habitat. The rehabilitation plan also requires two small areas to backfilled to an elevation above the surface of the lake in order to create island habitat. The final rehabilitation of the quarry is a lake with small islands. This amendment will not change the final rehabilitation of the quarry.

The licensee has calculated that the required rehabilitation, which is outlined on the site plan, will require the importation of 5,975,000 cubic metres of excess soil over the life of the quarry.
