We are proposing to update the Protocol of Accepted Drinking Water Testing Methods and Practices for the Collection and Handling of Drinking Water Samples documents to reflect advances in drinking water testing methods as well as current industry knowledge and practices for use by drinking water testing laboratories and system owners and operators.
The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has updated municipal risk assessments for drinking water systems to explicitly consider cybersecurity threats. This will help ensure Ontarians' drinking water remains safe, secure and reliable.
We are moving forward with regulatory changes to allow the ministry and drinking water systems to act quickly to help ensure that drinking water in Ontario is protected during an emergency, including by providing systems with temporary staffing options, and operators with temporary relief from training and certification requirements.
We amended Ontario Regulation 172/03 under the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002. The amendments to O. Reg. 172/03 have been filed under O. Reg. 209/19. The changes ensure greater alignment with the new “Environmental Compliance Approval in Respect of Sewage Works” regulation, Ontario Regulation 208/19, under the Environmental Protection Act.
