Totally agree with the idea of a circular economy. My concern is over regulation and the means of enforcing those regulations. The AMO discussion paper addresses many of the concerns of smaller municipalities, particularly in ensuring funding is made available in order to meet the new regulations . Read more

The Action Plan is an interesting step forward. My opinion would be the neeed for education for the public and business to increase a reduction in food waste. Commericals and lierature for people to understand what goes in a compost bin and how they can save move in reducing food waste. Read more

For the City of Kingston, multi-storey or high-rise apartment/residential buildings are not required to collect organics (food waste) from residents. Recommended: that policies be implemented to require organics collections for these buildings. [Original Comment ID: 211572]

When it comes to organic waste collection I think it would be best to provincially streamline what items can go into the bin. As it currently stands this varies from one municipality to the next. The most common example would be the bag for holding the waste from the kitchen catcher. Read more

Another observation when it comes to organics pick up. This one is more anecdotal but I'm sure it rings true elsewhere. In Ottawa the organics bin (green bin) is picked up weekly and garbage is picked up bi weekly. Residents are only allotted to have 2 bags of garbage per garbage pick up. Read more

I moved to Owen Sound last spring and was appalled to find there is no recycling program for green waste. Further, the blockbuster program in Chatsworth (immediately south of Owen Sound) has been discontinued because of insufficient raw materials to run it economically! Read more
