I am not an expert on climate change mitigation or adaptation, but it seems pretty obvious that any decision that is made to alter an existing program aimed at doing so must be done using the best available science. That does not appear to be the case with the proposed Bill.

I disagree with this legislation. Not only was cap and trade a functional system that provided net benefits to everyday Canadians, it fulfilled the federal government requirements for a tax on carbon that will otherwise be imposed.

I think it is absolutely absurd that the government is cancelling the Cap and Trade program. The program benefits all Ontarians, and should be kept in place. If it were to be repealed, it should be replaced with a true Carbon Tax.
Cap and trade is a step in the right direction towards mitigating the effects of atmospheric carbon. It makes polluters pay, and the generated revenue WAS being used as financial incentive to bringing cleaner, more sustainable energy alternatives into the mainstream marketplace.

The repeal of the Climate Change Mitigation and Low-carbon Economy Act, 2016 is willful ignorance at best, and malicious intent at worst. The current PC provincial government of Ontario has been silently vocal against their beliefs in climate change thus far.

Cap and trade is not my preferred method for reducing carbon emissions. I prefer a predictably-increasing carbon tax that is imposed on all sectors. However, a carbon tax has proven to be politically unpalatable.

Cancelling Cap and Trade is ill thought out and dangerous. It will not, as the government promises, have much effect on gas prices and it signals Ontario is open for polluters to destroy our environment for profit. Cap and Trade and all the associated programs are good for Ontario.

I like cap and trade. It helps the environment and makes the polluters pay. I knew ultimately consumers pay but at least we have a choice. This may help spur corporations to do more research and development on new ways of manufacturing and packaging. California, BC and Quebec are proof it works.
