A fantastic proposal. Cormorants are becoming a huge problem to our fisheries and serve no positive purpose to our ecosystem. The population needs to be properly managed and this proposal is a great step in the right direction.

Having a cottage in the Haliburton region, I have personally witnessed the cormorant population rise on the lake over the last few years. I would encourage opening up a hunting season on these birds before they do more devastation to the area like many other areas. Read more

As a resident of Ontario, who spends numerous hours fishing from a motorboat on Lake Erie, the need is there. Double crested cormorant populations are certainly an issue, and the affects from these birds is noticeable. I am all for a hunting season on these birds. Open season all year. Read more

I have a few concerns about this, as someone that camps on a small island out in Lake Superior. We have cormorants in the area all the time, does this mean bullets will be flying in the summer? The summer hunting season concerns me, I think this could put campers out on the water at risk. Read more

This is very long over due, In my view the population is now way out of control. I do not agree with a limit of 50. There should be no limit on these birds. I’m from the Quinte area and the amount of cormorants in the Bay is staggering. Read more

The timing of this proposed hunt seems to be a problem. Cormorants do not nest on their own but rather with other colony nesting species - for instance Great Egret, Great Blue Heron, Black-crowned Nightheron, White Pelican, Common Tern. Read more

I think that it is a very inhumane idea to shoot double crested cormorants during the breeding season. this will definitely endanger the other birds that are nesting in the area. I feel that it will also make it quite unsafe for residents and cottagers who live in the area.

Measures need to be taken to protect shorelines and fisheries. Reducing numbers needs to be actively implemented ASAP. You’ll never kill them all and that should not be the goal. Reduce numbers drastically I say.

Yes I think cormorants should be controlled. There are way to many of them. They are destroying islands with they’re crap. We have 3 small island at the cottage on head lake completely destroyed. Plus they eat 1 to 3 lbs of fish per day I hear. Not good for our future sport fishing. Read more
