I suggest before you close the discussion on this bill that you talk to the professionals in this field that deal with heritage properties on a daily basis. The Ontario Association of Heritage Professionals have drawn up a number of recommendations that should be carefully examined.

Bill 108 will negatively impact heritage buildings and limits the ability to designate properties in order to protect these valuable and irreplaceable places. Already, many properties have been lost to demolition without regard to the value that heritage properties bring to a city. Read more

These changes would give authority regarding heritage matters to the Local Planning Appeals Tribunal (LPAT) instead of the existing Conservation Review Board (CRB). LPAT will have the final say on approving, revoking or amending heritage protection bylaws. Read more
