Water taking should be at a cost comparable to what residents pay. We should not be subsiding for profit companies by allowing them to take water almost free. If municipalities have more say, then municipalities can set the rates, and derive the economic benefit.

I support the proposed strengthening of our water quantity management. I am particularly happy that municipalities will be able to refuse to support a permit over concerns about impacts on aquatic ecosystems, water availability or water quality. Read more

"The proposed enhancements are not expected to have a negative impact on businesses." That sums up this proposal's intent. This government, in spite of claims to the contrary, has little or no interest in protecting the environment or Ontario's natural resources. Read more

I’m very pleased with the stance Ontario has taken in regards to water-taking. The water-bottling industry needs to be reined in. Communities like Centre Wellington which has been mandated to double our growth rate cannot afford to be selling our water off.

As a member of the public, the proposal seems reasonable overall. I am glad to see that environmental sustainability is a #1 priority consideration for water use and that recognition is given to the likelihood of changing water needs and circumstances as a result of climate change. Read more
