This is so wrong on so many levels. It does not represent the wishes of the people nor does it benefit anyone but a handful. It should not be. Do what is right and revoke bill 229.

I do not think ministerial powers should be expanded in this way. While I support inclusionary zoning, I see no need for more provincial involvement in local matters. Read more

I believe that this proposal doesn't do enough to protect the historic and culturally important buildings in municipality's from demolition and/or detrimental changes. There needs to be protections in place to protect the culture and image of cities. Read more

I am calling on the Ontario Government to stop the misuse of MZOs, and to oppose changes to the Conservation Authorities Act and to prevent the sprawl that will inevitably result from allowing developers to have a key advisory role in implementing the new rules. Read more

MZOs - Ministerial Zoning Orders - are intended to be used in emergencies. Doug Ford uses them to bypass public input and allow his developer friends to build what they want, where they want. Read more

I generally do not support the Government’s unprecedented and increasing use of MZOs and their extraordinary authority to avoid and override principles of public notice, participation, transparent municipal council decision making and appeal – all enshrined in the Planning Act. Read more

There is a good process now for zoning . Placing “enhanced authority” in the hands of the Minister is NOT a democratic and fair suggestion. PLEASE stop this now. It is way too open to abuse.

The fact a Minister can overrule local governments does not sit well with me at all. Local governments are required to create and maintain Official Plans and secondary plans. Then they are required to coordinate their plans with regional governments and conservation authorities. Read more

We have more land available to build on than we can possibly develop in the next century. Some municipalities are fully developed or land is not in the right place. The developers have owned a lot of this land for decades and now want to cash in but regulation and laws have been modernized. Read more

MZO are a blunt instrument overriding climate mitigation efforts, community priorities, official plans and more. There should be a requirement for publicizing each MZO under consideration and broad opportunities for consultation. Read more

This enhanced authority would give the Minister too much power and would further trample on the rights of municipalities and the people who live in them. Read more

Ministry Zoning Orders are frequently considered (almost exclusively considered) for properties that have been identified to have environmentally sensitive concerns. These properties were purchased by the applicant knowing, or should have known, the identification of the nature of the property. Read more

The changes remove needed transparency and make all applications for MZOs look shady just by association. If a developer requires this kind of Ministerial intervention, they should be prepared to present it in public fora for consultation. Read more
