Removing the ability for municipalities to regulate architectural details and landscape design is dangerous and allows house developers to maximize the number of houses in an area with no regard to how people will live in these spaces in a social context and with no regard for their overall well-being. Regulating architectural details allows municipalities to keep developers in check and ensure safety for how houses are built. If this is removed, developers can purchase the cheapest products, that has minimal longevity to just pass building codes.
If municipalities can't regulate landscape design, then developers will do all they can to maximize the number of houses they can build in any given space, and will limit any greenspaces in this area. This will mean potentially no parks for children, or protection of woodlots, or creating trails for resident enjoyment. People will live in subdivisions full of only houses, increasing urban sprawl. Over time, this will really negatively impact the youth who live in this area because they will not be able to experience a designed area that keeps other fields such as the environment, community hubs and placemaking in mind. It will also negatively impact everyone else who lives in this area. The current Ontario government wants to create mono-crops of housing developments that have little regard for the people who live in them.
