Hello,
This has the potential to waste millions of taxpayer dollars for no gain other than to appease people who drive their cars into dense municipalities.
No one that lives in the core of these cities wants these lanes removed, as they greatly benefit actual residents in the area. Traffic studies have shown that congestion improves on streets with bike lanes as more people move away from using cars.
One of the lanes that sights have been set on are the brand new lanes on University Ave, which provide a critical north-south bike connection in Toronto. Tearing them out now would be an insane waste of time and money to appease people that don't even live downtown. People, including myself, rely on these lanes to get around the city.
So much good progress on cycling infrastructure has been made, it would be a shame to get rid of it all.
This is ridiculous.
