This proposal includes restrictions to activities within 600 meters of brook trout lakes. This runs counter to the emulation of natural disturbance found in the Forest Management Guide for Boreal Landscapes. It also does not take into account the efforts, research and stakeholder inputs that helped the MNRF develop the Stand the Site Guides which provide critical direction on managing woodland areas near or next to water bodies. Selectively choosing when/where to implement these approved guides which were developed as part of the ongoing improvements to the managing of forests in Ontario seems to be counter-intuitive. The area in question can be managed in an ecologically sound manner through the approved guides and forest management plans to achieve the necessary protections without the creation of additional bureaucratic inefficiencies.
I would also suggest that if these areas are considered to be so sensitive as to require the creation of an EMA than all existing trails and Land Use permits to these areas should be removed.
Thank you
