The regulates professional foresters in Ontario. Like all provincially regulated professions, OPFA members are required to protect the public interest. To do so they must meet specific education and experiential standards. They are also required to maintain their competency in professional forestry through mandatory continuing education. The foregoing is pointed out as most people in Ontario are not aware that professional forestry in regulated by provincial law and professional foresters are required to protect the public interest. Professional foresters work to find solutions so that species listed under Ontario’s Endangered Species Act are protected. They also work to meet the requirements of other laws, bylaws and regulations related to land and the environment in Ontario. As a result of their experience in finding solutions to protect endangered species and being accountable to the public, the Ontario Professional Foresters Association requests that a Registered Professional Forester is included as a member of the independent panel be formed that will provide advice on consideration of species at risk in Crown forest management.
