The following comment is to support the extension of Section 55 ESA Regulation. Our company would like to see more time spent on this topic before final decisions can be made. The future of our forestry operation depends on this regulation to the point where this could mean layoffs and shut downs. The 2 year extension is not enough and we would like to see the extension pushed to 5 years.
The regulation would not only affect our harvesting operation for our company, but our sawmill and moulder operations would also feel the effects of a possible major reduction in timber investments. Inadequate results could most likely mean the closure of our operations so at the very least we would like to see this extension passed as soon as possible to ensure a thorough run through.
In our case there are 20-30 jobs at stake in the small community of French River.
