Natural habitat, such as wetlands and wildlife habitat should be given priority for protection - it cannot be replaced once it is destroyed. Natural habitat reduces economic impacts from climate change like flooding. Our wetlands and species at risk need more protection, not less. Quarry operators should have to pay into a fund each year of operation to ensure that there is money for rehabilitation when they are done - otherwise they take their money and run. Our environment needs greater protections, not less, we are already losing too much natural habitat and wildlife species - we have always put our economic interests over the interests of a healthy environment and that is why our environment is in such poor shape. A healthy environment increases quality of life and decreases health care costs. Developers get to profit from land use designations changes very often - it is a gamble - if they lose once in a while, taxpayers should not have to pay for their gambling losses !!!
