I support the proposal to eliminate the draw and add the species of Northern Goshawk. I grew up in a falconry family, have been a falconry apprentice and still attend Falconry Association meet-ups and have never met a more dedicated group of people to conservation. I have seen the connection falconers have to their birds, to the quarry, to the natural resource, and to farmers. Eliminating the draw will ensure that all apprentices have the opportunity to capture the correct raptor species. Adding Northern Goshawks will enhance citizen science without affecting wild populations. Coming from a biology background and having done many scientific research field seasons studying birds, I am glad to see the MNRF adopting an adjustable number of goshawks to be taken. This will encourage more study of the species.
