I am writing to support the approval of Waterloo Region's Official Plan Amendment 6.

There are many reasons to ensure the Plan amendment goes forward but the two most fundamental are:
1. It would recognize the basic democratic right of communities to make decisions on issues that directly impact them. In this case, all but one of the Region of Waterloo's 17 elected representatives voted for the Regional Official Plan Amendment 6. Overriding this decision would be a betrayal of representative democracy.
2. The Official Plan Amendment is an important local response to the climate emergency at a time when urgent action must be taken at all levels of government if we are to reach crucial climate goals. As well as prompting other important greenhouse gas reductions, the Amendment will reduce traffic emissions, the biggest source of greenhouse gases in Waterloo Region.
