I share the same concerns about these floating cottages/accommodations. I am concerned they will grow in numbers due to their low cost compared to cottage property, to the point where they interfere with the enjoyment of our lake and cottage property. I am concerned about the wastewater being returned to the lake even though they have a septic system that was approved 18 years ago using antiquated standards not acceptable today. There are no inspections that ensure it still functions as intended. I am concerned about noise pollution especially from rowdy renters up for a wild weekend or owners who disregard common sense and lake etiquette. I am concerned that they pay no taxes or maintenance fees whatsoever to the municipality but use the services, roads, emergency response, policing, hospitals and others for free, ultimately driving my property taxes up to pay for that. I am also concerned there will be interference with our activities on the water due to the mobility of these craft and the fact they can anchor wherever they want to, including right in front of our cottage or in the prime fishing and swimming areas thereby blocking our view or access. I am concerned about the impact on the fish and aquatic ecosystems due to over fishing/out of season fishing due to the ability to hide the day's catch on board in their "cottage" while continuing to fish out a hotspot. I feel they are cheating the system and avoiding paying their fair share in the interest of having a cheap cottaging experience at our expense. They are unsightly and annoying and a potential threat to the safety and health of our waterways. If left unchecked they will result in more social conflict as they encroach on and restrict our enjoyment of our cottage and lake experience which we have paid for and deserve. I fully support the Ontario MNR and the provincial government in their plan to restrict or even eliminate these vessels from pour waterways.
