We live close to the proposed disposal site for this raw sewage. We have young children, and I am concerned about contamination of our groundwater supply with E. coli and other enterotoxins. I have witnessed a child have severe complications of a condition called TTP-HUS caused by E. coli, resulting in renal failure and requiring amputation of multiple limbs. As a mother, this is terrifying to me. I would hope that there are safer ways of disposing of mass amounts of human excrement via waste treatment facilities, rather than simply dumping it in a field with the risk of it leeching into our water supply. Why is there stringent code re: requirements of septic tanks, when others can simply dump mass amounts of feces in our backyard ?
