I would like to encourage the idea that points only increase chances of drawing a tag and not the most points always draws a tag.
I am 36 yrs old and have never applied for a moose draw. My sons are both just getting into moose hunting. The way the draw is set up, I will be well into my 50s by the time I draw a bull tag in my hunting area and them well into adulthood.
Hunting is based on passing down tradition and sustaining hunters through younger recruitment but this system does neither.
A simple point and lottery combined system would be fair for all and the higher the points the higher the likelihood but not guarantee of drawing a tag.
The US has this system in place in many states and it works well in both helping the hunters with the most points get tags but also give the newer hunters a opportunity to experience and enjoy these hunts without having to dedicate thir life to applying for tags.
