Targeting bike lanes as a major cause of motor vehicle traffic congestion is not only politically cynical but factually inaccurate.
Removal of bike lanes will not improve traffic flow but it will cause injuries and deaths of vulnerable road users who have as much right to use these routes as other vehicles.
Bike lanes should be increasing, not decreasing. It is utterly inappropriate that the province should attempt to meddle in municipal matters, and to force such measures through in a timeframe that does not allow for proper consultation. The provincial government should be encouraging the country's largest city to work for all its residents and not discriminating against a significant group of road users for "reasons" that are easily revealed for being inaccurate and, apparently, spiteful.
