Citizens of Ontario need to know the true hydrology of the provinces aquafers, ground water, water tables lakes rivers etc. A comprehensive survey must be done.
Secondly, the permits to extract water must be set to ensure that use for local citizens, the environment and all animals and plants therein and local business are taken care of before any extraction for bottling is allowed.
Thirdly, the fees set for commercial extraction must be set at a level that actually compensates the removal of a precious resource.----in other words, at a rate of 25-50% of what the company intends to sell it for (see Norway oil resource remittance fees for example of a truly working application)
Lastly, make polluters pay for all waste they create---BOTTLE DEPOSIT MUST BE REINSTITUED. We are one of two provinces with NO bottle deposit. Plastice should be. banned for all water use.
Time is running out for the planet.
NB. The con gov cancelled the office of the environmental commissioner today. What did you thnk Doug would do??? No one asked WHICH were the people he was going to be the government for!!!
