1. Ontario Industry consumes 80% of the volume of the Enbridge Gas system while paying 20% of the costs. Without a solid base of small volume residential and business customers on the system, Ontario businesses would have to pay a larger share of the system costs and ultimately have no choice but to pass higher energy costs onto the consumer, giving them an economic disadvantage against other jurisdictions.

2. Natural gas delivers four to five times the maximum capacity of the electricity system at a quarter of the cost and is much less affected by climate events, thus strengthening reliability.

3. Natural gas’ underground infrastructure means that it is not affected by storms that can disrupt customers. Burying electricity assets is expensive. According to BC Hydro, burying electricity lines can cost up to 10 times more than building overhead infrastructure.

Jobs / Economic Growth:

1. The natural gas industry creates countless stable, well-paying jobs across a variety of roles throughout Ontario. Companies like ours offer jobs to over 500 workers with competitive wages that support families, help workers build solid futures and provide benefits that are essential for workers’ health and security.

2. Further, our employees support local economies by keeping their earnings within the community, benefiting the local tax base, other spin-off businesses and public services.
Protecting natural gas in the Ontario market reduces reliance on foreign energy, enhancing natural security and creating stable, local opportunities that aren’t easily offshored.
