I'm writing to share my concerns about the Environmental Compliance Approval (sewage) for the project by Infrastructure Ontario.
I'm worried about the environmental impact and community enjoyment. Allowing sewage discharge by the lakeshore could harm aquatic life and degrade water resources that are crucial for both wildlife and the local community.
Moreover, the area where this waste will be diverted is extensively used by rowers, paddle boarders, canoers, and kayakers, including children, especially during the summer. Not to mention, there are several sailing clubs that operate nearby. The shoreline and beaches, where people enjoy bathing, will also be affected. It doesn't make sense to divert waste to such a heavily used recreational area. It seems like the corporate interests are being prioritized over the well-being of citizens and taxpayers.
Additionally, there hasn't been enough consultation with the local community. As a resident, I believe it's important for those who will be directly impacted to have a say in the decision-making process. The lack of transparency and public engagement raises concerns about the legitimacy of this proposal. The Ministry needs to take a precautionary approach and thoroughly assess the potential health impacts before moving forward. It is common knowledge that this larger site was not subject to a proper environmental impact assessment. It is now the opportunity to address this error.
Given these concerns, I urge the Ministry to reconsider this Environmental Compliance Approval. Please conduct a comprehensive environmental impact assessment and engage in extensive consultation with the local community and independent experts to address all potential risks and consider other options.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
