We lived in Oakville for 20 years and moved to Spadina and Queens Quay 9 years ago. We frequently visited and enjoyed Ontario Place. No more. I am appalled at the plans for the Spa and also moving the Science Centre to Ontario Place. This decision is only serving developers and the politicians who are not working in the best interests of the citizens of Ontario nor the communities around Ontario Place.
We oppose the proposal for an interim combined sewer to support development Ontario Place. It goes against decades of focus and hard work by the City of Toronto to separate and replace combined sewers across the city to prevent the discharge of raw sewage into Lake Ontario. It also does not support international agreements to protect water quality and habitat in the Great Lakes. This effluent also risks human health in terms of water quality at beaches, fishing and the quality of the lake as an attraction for Canadian and international visitors. The province has understandably also not held any consultations about this work with the general public - knowing there will be a strong pushback against this ill thought of and damaging plan.
This proposal to benefit private sector initiatives, is against the public interest and threatens the stability of the lake ecosystem in a time of severe biodiversity loss. Please deny this permit.
