As an evolutionary ecologist and Ontario resident, I unequivocally oppose the proposed repeal of the Endangered Species Act. In the midst of a climate crisis, dismantling protections for at-risk species is reckless and short-sighted. Biodiversity is not optional—it is essential to our ecological stability, economic security, and public health. Gutting this legislation serves no one's long-term interests. Ontario must reinforce, not erode, its commitment to conservation if we are to ensure a livable future.
