I am very concerned about this proposed legislation. For endangered species we are part of a web of habitat that is critical for their life stages, their survival, and for the survival of diversity on this planet. I am particularly against allowing projects to proceed after they have just registered - before waiting for an assessment. This is how habitat gets destroyed and you can’t then get it back - a case in point is the destruction of over 800 trees on Ontario Place West Island.
Another serious issue is the definition of habitat as where species have dens, live, etc. Many species migrate and depend on appropriate habitat and food sources on these long journeys. You destroy one of those areas and you damage those populations. Ontario is lucky to have many bird species that migrate through - you will not necessarily see them nesting in the area but their stop over in the area is critical to their survival and breeding success.
