As a resident of Dresden for the past 34 years, I am totally dismayed and angered of the proposal that the Environmental Assessment requirement be removed. Having a small dormant incinerator ash disposal location turned into a huge full scale dump without a full assessment done is preposterous and utterly inhumane. The amount of pollution that would occur 800 meters from our town is outrageous. The lives and health of the people of Dresden are at stake here and should never be taken lightly. To put money ahead of human lives is totally barbaric and unacceptable. The amount of traffic that would occur from the hundreds of trucks would be highly dangerous and would cause excessive damage to the infrastructure of our town and the surrounding area. Financially it would devastate Dresden. House prices would decrease. We are a town with a rich history associated with the liberation of slaves as portrayed by the historic site…Uncle Tom’s Cabin. A dump so close to the town would destroy tourism, pollute our air and waterways and threaten the health of each resident.
I am adamant that a complete Environmental Assessment be completed so a complete picture of what this dump would do to our town be made manifest to all.
