To whom it may concern,
I am writing to express my utmost concern with the proposed reopening and operating landfill outside Dresden, ON. As a resident of Dresden, I am opposed to this for many reasons! Located less than 1 km from the outskirts of Dresden, the proposed landfill will cause significant and ongoing nuisances such as increased noise, dust and vibrations from truck traffic, as well as damage to our country roads from all the extra weight and traffic from the trucks. This isn’t even mentioning the potential health risks associated with the airborne particles that we as a community will be exposed to.
With the suggested materials being disposed of into the landfill, odours and airborne particles will undoubtedly be inhaled, causing respiratory illnesses and potential cancer causing diseases. There is a growing concern of health risks related to ground water and air quality. And with the opening of said landfill, our property values will plummet as no person would willingly move to a town with a landfill just minutes from town.
The Sydenham River is home to many endangered species. With the close proximity of the landfill to the Sydenham River and with the connecting Molly’s creek running through the landfill property, there is a risk of polluting our water and endangering the species within it.
A proper environmental study needs to be completed and be accessible to the public, as well as a plan in place to protect our ground water. Details about the traffic impact should also be made public as increased traffic will affect the structure of our roads, increase commute times, and create an increased risks to the people of Dresden.
We as a community take great pride in our little town. I chose this town to raise my children in and love the quiet, peaceful lifestyle we have become accustomed to. I now worry about the safety of my children crossing the main road to go to the public school with the increase in truck traffic, as well as the potential health risks that they will be exposed to if this landfill opens operation.
We are not a dumping grounds for the GTA! You wouldn’t want a dump in your backyard so why is it ok to dump in ours?
Sincerely,
A concerned residents of Dresden
