I am extremely concerned and opposed to this bill. Ontario is home to great biodiversity that stands in a delicate balance due to decades of development that encroaches on nature. We need environmental protections and safeguarding in place and this process cannot be rushed. Permits should undergo careful review, these changes will make it too easy for developers, who are not environmental experts, to prioritize their own financial gains over the long-term impact on wildlife. The environmental protections act is key to this biodiversity. Ontario will not be the same without its nature, and its nature will not be the same without its biodiversity. Yes Ontario needs greater numbers and more affordable housing, but then we should take steps like re-implementing rent control on all buildings, steps that benefit renters and the average person, rather than wealthy developers.
