I do not support removing environmental assessments. I do not accept "the threat of the US" as the reason for this either; it feels more like an excuse.

Environmental assessments are here for a reason. They are to protect the environment, which sustains all life including humans. A clean environment means clean air, water and food, healthy animals that sustain ecosystems, which provide us with food, mitigation against flooding and other extreme weather conditions, etc. Only if we have a clean environment, can people thrive, and then profit can happen.

Environmental assessments are not red tape and definitely should not be entirely removed. A project's impacts need to be known before it can proceed. If not, the project may result in negative impacts (e.g., contamination of local water sources which could kill fish that people eat or contaminate water that people drink, etc). Not doing environmental assessments mean that a project could actually take longer and cost more in the long run, e.g., when they have to clean up and pay for de-contamination.

There is other red tape that can be addressed. Environmental assessments are not one of them. I would not be comfortable living around a potential dump site without knowing its effects, nor do I support that approach in general for all the other life (plants, animals) out there who deserve to have clean homes too. Humans need to take more responsibility for their actions.

When the environment thrives, so can the economy. It's not a battle between them. You can do both, protect the environment and make money. E.g., numerous studies show that investing in nature generates return on investment.

I urge the government to stop attacking the environment, and to stop changing laws to suit their own (or industry/billionaire/etc) wants. This is not what citizens need. Thank you
