There is a bit of irony that it is later referred to as "a tool" as to downplay and minimize that this is a MAJOR change to legislation and it is a Law change -a ZONING BYLAW CHANGE that is detrimental to the Greenbelt that voters have shown they want protected!
Calling it a "Open for business planning bylaw" for any Greenbelt is a contradiction to what the majority of the population defines as a greenbelt. This is the slippery slope that allows economics to trump the health and well being of a population in the name of dollars.
When promises are made politically to gain office they should not be able to reverse them (Ford or any representative) on the people it serves.
Putting in a the provision that allows a project to proceed without a public meeting, with the municipality only getting the Minister's approval violates our rights to be consulted and give input.
The fact that the timing of this for Submissions on the regulation are to be made by January 20th!!! seems it is to minimize the number of objections from the pubic.
We are at a point in the calendar when people by large have additional responsibilities and are trying to CLEAR their calendar for family and celebrations during the season not add a fight against an egregious bylaw proposal! thus showing once again politics are not for the faint of heart.
At a time of year when hopefully more of us than less consider our individual sense of moral obligation and rise to the occasion may that now be the case, as so often promises fall to the scent of a dollar sign and our environment is the first casualty claimed in the name of "planning" and business.
