Did you know over 1 million people die each year due to methane in their environment? Methane is extremely harmful and may cause these symptoms: rapid breathing; increased heart rate; clumsiness and dizziness; decreased vision; euphoria; fatigue; loss of memory; weakness; vomiting; convulsions; coma; and death. I would never want to see someone go through any of these symptoms, would you? Another downside for the population of Dresden is the scent a dump would produce. The smell of the tomato run, marijuana warehouse and a dump would be disgusting! No one wants to live in a stinky polluted town. Because of all these problems for people, no one will want to live in Dresden meaning the businesses, house market, and overall economy will suffer.
Dresden is known for its agricultural significance and a dump would hinder the farmland and the people working in agriculture. Methane can strongly affect the soil making it extremely flammable. This creates a more complex farming process meaning our food supply will be affected. Another problem that the dump will cause is interference with traffic. In Dresden, a large amount of tomatoes are produced every year and the transport process is very long. Traffic is already hectic enough, if there were to be trucks carrying the waste constantly driving around the traffic would get even more backed up interfering with everyone’s life.
The waste from a dump would take away the natural habitats of many animals in Dresden. Deer, geese, owls, and many other animals are all at risk of losing their homes and maybe even their lives. A specific species that lives in Ontario is Barn Owls. These Owls happen to be going extinct and this dump will only lessen their chances of survival. This reminds me of Eagles in our area. In past years, DDT (an insecticide) had been sprayed on farms causing Eagles native to the area to leave. Ever since we’ve stopped using DDT the eagles have come back and their population is thriving once again. I would hate to see a species like Barn Owls undergo the same treatment as the eagles did.
In a perfect world everything would be recycled and waste wouldn’t be a thing however our world isn’t perfect and dumps have to happen. My solution is to place the dump in an area of Canada that isn’t populated by humans or animals. There is a town in Nunavut called Grise Fiord with a population of 144 people. Perhaps if there is a stretch of land isolated far enough from society the dump could be put there where it can't hurt anything.
