I oppose Bill 5 for the following reasons:
The bill waters down rules that protect endangered species and natural heritage sites, maintain oversight of mining activities, require respect for constitutionally guaranteed Indigenous Rights and mandate environmental assessments and protections.
Ontario’s Bill 5 doesn’t consider Indigenous Rights.
Ontario’s Bill 5 protects the government against lawsuits for anyone involved in a project within a special economic zone.
Ontario’s Bill 5 would weaken species protections to make it easier to build mines and highways.
Ontario’s Bill 5 would exempt development projects from environmental reviews.
Ontario’s Bill 5 would erode safeguards against mining activity.
Ontario’s Bill 5 would exempt Ontario Place from public consultation requirements.
Please DO NOT consider Bill 5 and, instead, immediately withdraw Bill 5.
