I am expressing my strong opposition to Bill 5. I believe this legislation undermines our democratic processes and local representation. Decisions that affect our communities should be made with full consultation and respect for democratic norms.
Accelerating the approval process for major infrastructure and mining projects by creating “special economic zones.” is wrong on so many levels. Knowing that within these zones, designated projects and proponents could be exempt from existing provincial and municipal regulations, including environmental assessments and local governance rules is concerning. I am concerned about potential environmental degradation, the undermining of Indigenous rights, and the erosion of democratic oversight.
