Since January 2024 we have been fighting the expansion of a long closed landfill, which has been used as a bomb disposal area and firing range for the Chatham-Kent Police more recently. We need a thorough Environmental Assessment like promised to ensure no toxic chemicals will seep into the adjoining creek that flows into the Sydenham River, which flows into Lake St. Clair and the Great Lakes, that supply many Ontarians drinking water.
This project should not be fast tracked, as there are so many negative factors that need to be considered and looked into to keep us safe. An environmental assessment will help determine these factors and should be the most basic first step in any project like this. The fact that Ford wants to take away the EA is crazy and unjust to give one person so much power.
