This proposal is grossly irresponsible and will lead to the decline of Ontario’s natural environment. The definitions included in the proposal are not based on any scientific research. To define habitat as simply the dwelling of an individual misrepresents to use of the environment by species. What will happen to a species if its home is safe but has nowhere to forage? Or if it cannot make it back to its home because its migration stopover site is now a suburban neighborhood? The answer is that the species will not persist, as all environmental organizations are making clear in the protestation of this proposal. The removal of “harassing” a species will cause the decline of endangered species down the line, as they will be too stressed by anthropogenic activities to reproduce. Why should we deny future generations, our children, the beauty of Ontario? It is critical for the safety of ourselves and the natural environment that this proposal does not come to fruition.
