I strongly oppose Bill 5. It is an assault on Ontario’s democracy and will have devastating impacts to Ontario’s natural environment and biodiversity. This Bill demonstrates short term thinking, government mismanagement and poor judgement. It prioritizes shortcuts for development at the expense of biodiversity. Biodiversity and conservation should be at the forefront of decision making and protected at all costs. Biodiversity is crucial for continued health and prosperity in our province. Conserving wildlife enables healthy communities through food security, disease mitigation, climate resiliency, clean air and water, and mental health support through access to nature. Opportunities exist to grow and shape our economy while caring and nurturing our environment. This Bill will take Ontario backwards and put our environment at risk.
