The Ontario legislature must reject Bill 5.
The government is backpeddling on yet another promise and is now going to remove the environmental assessment requirements for the proposed Dresden Dump.
The site is in a well-documented hotspot for species at risk. Environmental impacts including impacts to species at risk as well as alternatives that would avoid any impacts must be properly assessed and considered under an environmental assessment.
The government and its supporters/donors see the natural environment and species at risk as nothing more than a hindrance to development and profits. They expect the general public to believe that we need to choose between the environment and the economy. This isn't true. A strong economy is directly tied to a a healthy environment.
The Dresden Dump must not be exempted from any requirements and must undergo a thorough, detailed environmental assessment.
