Please do not include the repeal of Ontario Regulation 284/24 within Bill 5. A full and comprehensive Environmental Assessment is needed at 29831 Irish School Road, Dresden, ON before this property can be considered for a landfill, recycling facility and waste facility. Only after an EA will we understand the impact of such a proposal.

Every resident of Dresden and the surrounding neighbourhood will be affected by the noise, smell, light, air quality, quantity of traffic, run off and property value. The property at 29831 Irish School Road is much too close to a small community (0.8km) and too close to houses right at the edge of this proposed site to be a consideration for a huge landfill, recycling and waste facility.

The residents of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and Dawn-Euphemia Township and beyond will be negatively affected by 700 trucks entering and 700 trucks exiting the facility daily. Safety and infrastructure are concerns.

This week there was an accident in our small, rural community. Did you hear about it? A truck driver, unfamiliar with our small farming community, smashed into the back of a tractor and water wagon. The tractor driver is fighting for his life. Think about how many more accidents there will be when you daily bring 700 unfamiliar drivers into our small rural community who do not understand the patterns and cycles of a farming community. That’s 700 trucks into the site and 700 trucks leaving the site. Our community will become unsafe.

I am concerned for the school buses that start and stop on the highway in front of the proposed dump. What will happen when you bring 700 unfamiliar drivers into our small rural community? That’s 700 trucks into the site and 700 trucks leaving the site. Our children will not be safe.

A full Environmental Assessment is needed at 29831 Irish School Road, Dresden, ON to study the impacts of this proposal. Please do not allow Bill 5 to take away this necessary study.
