I am concerned that Bill 17 will diminish the opportunity to ensure new homes built in Ontario are built to a standard that will reduce energy waste, keep housing affordable by considering ongoing utility costs to the owner, and also to ensure housing will shield occupants from the impacts of extreme weather that is now common in our province. I believe the green construction safeguards put in place by city leaders in Ontario, via thoughtful, evidence-based and democratic process, including consultation with industry stakeholders, should be respected, especially since there is no evidence I have seen that green construction standards are impeding construction starts in Ontario. I certainly support the Ontario government's commitment to providing housing for all Ontarians, but let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater by undoing good existing process that is ensuring quality, future friendly buildings are the norm. Thank you for this opportunity to comment.
