Hello,
Doing the right thing costs money. Sadly, reducing and transferring costs to business, where money is everything and the right thing comes second is likely to fail. If Ontario can't do recycling right, who can?
Burned waste, especially plastic waste, but also cardboard, creates very toxic volatile chemicals. If incineration will be a valid choice for producers (I don't think anyone would call incineration it 'recycling'), I hope that MECP would require filters on all incineration plants. Otherwise you may as well put the plastic back in the landfill, as you're polluting just as much if not more (just in another location). But it shouldn't be a valid choice in the first place.
With climate change happening faster than ever, now is not the time to step back on expansion. Reduce, Re-use, Recycle is more important now than it ever was before. Things cost more, I get it, but we're now paying the consequences (literally) for the inaction that we didn't take decades ago.
I would have gladly had you use the money you gave me back for my car registration to get this right. I think your priorities aren't in order.
Thanks
