Please approve Mayor Horwath's request for a Minister's Zoning Order. Hamilton has an affordable housing crises, with more people living on the street than ever before. I don't pretend to understand why CN has a legal right to block the project. The CBC reports that CN is concerned about the impacts of odour, vibration and noise on future residents, and they have a duty to protect future residents living near its infrastructure. I think they're more concerned about their duty to protect their investors and the impact potential future litigation costs may have on their profits. This situation is just another example of how the capitalist underpinnings of our laws favour the wealthy few and disadvantage the many. Housing is a human right, and should not be superseded by corporate interests. Not only is approving her request the morally right thing to do, it is in keeping with the province's stated goals and objectives for meeting its own housing targets.
