My family moved to Hamilton in 1987. We rented a 3 bedroom house on Ferrie St W, just up from a thriving, family filled townhouse complex. The units were affordable and many housed multiple generational families. The residents of 405 James St N were our friends and school mates and they contributed to the fabric of a bustling, working class North End. Selling this property was a huge mistake, one that I am sure the City deeply regrets today, but this cannot be the end of housing on this site. CN was there when I was a kid and so were those homes. Now, as we face an unprecedented housing crisis, these units sit empty. It is shocking and embarrassing and the Provincial Government needs to step in. We must allow housing to return to this site.
