It is my opinion and that of many others that I have spoken to that, the correct thing to do involving this problem would be to preserve the original houses that are built there, and use them as housing for the homeless. There are several problems that arise with this current issue. One of them is of the upmost importance and that is the protection of nature that is there. you know those things that keep literally everything alive "those trees I think they are called?" There are many old and matured trees that I can almost guarantee will be bulldozed down for the sake of profit/room/housing crisis, whatever you want to call it. If you allow that to happen you lose many trees and not to mention habitat for all kinds of animals/life big and small, but certainly of great importance now more than ever. How many trees do you need to cut down before you start to care. Before you start worrying?
Another thing that I hope people will care about and should care about is the homelessness problem. As it is right now, there are people without homes that go to these buildings and take shelter there. If you take those buildings down I can almost guarantee you that none, and I mean not one of those homeless people will be able to afford to live in those new houses, and that you will do nothing but take away the shelter that they use on a near daily basis. Especially during the Winter and Summer where the climate is the most extreme. I really don't think the current proposal helps many people in the long run, and I know that it does not help our most vulnerable community members and the people who need it the most. Believe it or not, good people can actually help people without getting rich and doing irreparable damage in the process. Our suggestion is to keep and improve not demolish the current houses and let the homeless use them as they have been trying to do and doing so for years. These people need homes too and with the current government, have been pressured and prosecuted incredibly harshly. We believe that you should improve and rehabilitate the current houses and legally let them occupy the homes already there. In doing so you protect and improve the needs of our most exposed citizens that deserve help and compassion as much as everyone else, but have been receiving very little of it, or at least not nearly enough of it. We propose re-insulating, re-fitting, and re-using the homes and giving the people who use them a bare minimum living condition. Not evicting them. In doing so giving them a safe home, not charging them something that they cannot afford. You can have personnel and staff members assigned to these existing homes and regulate the home accordingly. Ensuring all residents sign a wavier of sorts and that no one takes advantage or damages anything etc. etc. Furthermore it would be simpler and significantly easier and faster involving legal protection as well. By having the residents sign a wavier and agreement that if any harm befalls them due to CN rail in any way (and only CN rail) that they will not take any legal ramification. The simple fact of the matter is that you have struggled and will continue to struggle with living conditions on these lands. I assure you that many if not all Homeless people would be most likely more than content to sleep in a home with insulation, water, electricity, etc. Despite any proposed problems by CN. As many of there current living situations are much much worse that what CN is warning of. However the people you are charging to live in these houses, if you get that far, will continually have problems involving fair living conditions that rival anywhere else in this Province and in this County.
