Subject: Protecting Wasaga Beach – Preserving Ontario’s Natural

To whoever this letter is addressed to within the Government of Ontario,

I am writing to express my deep concern about the future of Wasaga Beach and to urge your government to take strong action in protecting it from privatization and commercial development.

Wasaga Beach is one of Ontario’s most beautiful and unique natural spaces — not just in our province, but across North America. It is a significant part of our environmental heritage and an essential destination for tourism, recreation, and nature appreciation. It should not be altered or disturbed for the sake of profit.

As you know, Ontario Parks currently manages Wasaga Beach and plays a critical role in protecting more than 300 environmentally sensitive and historically significant areas across the province. Their mission — to conserve Ontario’s natural ecosystems for future generations — must be supported, not undermined.

The $1 million in funding that has reportedly been lacking since 2017 is not a failure of Ontario Parks, but rather a reflection of inadequate provincial support. If properly funded, Ontario Parks has the expertise and public trust to maintain Wasaga Beach in a way that balances tourism with sustainability and ecological protection.

What draws people to Wasaga Beach is not hotels or private businesses — it’s the natural beach itself. That beauty is not something we created; it’s something we inherited, and we have a duty to protect it.

Privatization or commercial development of Wasaga Beach sets a dangerous precedent. If we allow one natural area to be compromised, how long before other cherished parks — like Sandbanks or even Algonquin — are also placed at risk?

I respectfully urge you and your government to:

Ensure Ontario Parks is fully funded to properly manage Wasaga Beach and other protected areas.

Oppose any move to privatize, lease, or commercially develop Wasaga Beach.

Strengthen protections for Ontario’s natural spaces, ensuring they remain public and accessible for future generations.

Let’s keep nature in public hands — protected not for profit, but for people and the planet.

Sincerely,
Simply a Ontario citizen
