I am discouraged about our future. Once again the Conservative Party is proving that their government prioritizes short-term profit and powerful insiders over the long-term health of Ontario’s environment and communities.
Wasaga Beach Provincial Park isn’t just a popular summer destination — it’s a sanctuary. It’s one of the last remaining nesting grounds for the endangered Piping Plover in Ontario, a species that has only recently started to recover after decades of near-extinction. That recovery didn’t happen by accident — it’s the result of years of careful conservation, local community involvement, and environmental protection.
Now, all of that is at risk.
By gutting the Endangered Species Act through Bill 5, the Conservatives have removed key protections that shield vulnerable species and habitats from destruction. And now, this government is taking it a step further — proposing to sell off parts of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park for development, including land that is critical to the survival of the Piping Plover.
This isn’t responsible planning. It’s ecological vandalism.
Even more troubling is the Ford government's push to make it easier to sell off any provincial park land — stripping away safeguards that have protected these public spaces for generations. These moves don’t reflect the will of Ontarians. They reflect the interests of wealthy developers and political insiders, not the public good.
Ontario’s parks belong to the people — not the Premier’s friends and donors. If we lose these protected spaces and the wildlife they shelter, we don’t get them back. What’s at stake isn’t just land — it’s our shared future, our natural heritage, and our moral responsibility.
